16 burnt to death in Ondo auto crash

Ondo State command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed the death of no fewer than 16 persons in a fatal road accident which occured along Ondo-Ore road on Monday.


The FRSC sector commander in charge of the state, Mr Samuel Ibitoye in a statement said the accident was caused as a result of head on collision occasioned by high speed.


He hinted that three persons were injured in the accident, wile the corpses of the deceased are already deposited in the mogue.


He disclosed that those who died in the accident were burnt beyond recognition, while those who sustained injuries are already receiving medical treatment.


He said two vehicles including a Totota Hiace and a truck had collision which led sparked fire in the two vehicles.


Ibitoye identified over speeding and wrongful overtaking as the main causes of the accident.


However, he hinted that investigations have commenced on the accidents, but stated that preliminary investigation indicated over speeding and wrongful overtaking.


He urged motorists to drive with patience, while noting defensive techniques and not to claim right, just as he identified over speeding as major cause if accidents on Nigeria roads.
