The federal government has commenced arrangements to evacuate Nigerians in Lebanon following escalation of hostilities between Israel and Iran.
Special Assistant to the President on Social Media, Dada Olusegun disclosed this on Tuesday and requested the diaspora in Lebanon to reach out to the Nigeria mission for documentation.
In a tweet on X through his handle, @DOlusegun, the president’s aid alerted all Nigerians in Lebanon “to get in touch with the Nigerian mission for profiling, documentation and subsequent evacuation”.
UTV-AFRICA reports that there are over five thousand Nigerians living in the country.
On Tuesday, Iran fired 180 ballistic missiles at Israel in response to the killings of Hezbollah leaders.
The two countries swapped threats following Tehran’s missile barrage.
Israel’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netantahu, had vowed that his country will respond severely to any attack against its sovereignty.
On their part, China and Saudi Arabia had called for de-escalation of the situation in the Middle East and urged parties to return to dialogue.
