A 23-year-old suspected robber, Godwin Emmanuel, who also stole a mobile phone while being transported to a police cell in Osun State, has begged for forgiveness.

The suspect was arrested with Olajide Kareem (28), and Mike Emmanuel (33), for allegedly robbing passengers of their belongings along Ilesa-Osu way, Osun. He was said to have come from Ikorodu to perpetrate the purported crime.

Emmanuel, who admitted to the robbery allegation, said: “I was arrested for armed robbery in Ile-Ife. When I was being transported to the Police Command in Osogbo, inside the police patrol van, I stole a mobile phone. I didn’t know it belonged to a policeman. I told the policeman not to be angry with me that I didn’t know when I did that.

“I took the phone into the police cell after I had removed the SIM card and put it inside the cover. I wanted to use the phone to call my people because I was not allowed to call them since I have been here for about two months ago. I beg. Forgive me.”

The spokesperson of the police in Osun, Yemisi Opalola, who paraded the suspects at the Osogbo police headquarters, on Friday, explained that the arrest of Kareem took the police to Ikorodu, where the two other suspects were arrested.
