An unconfirmed number of Okija residents in Anambra state have reportedly died in a stampede.
According to reports, the rush occurred on Saturday morning at a rice distribution event.
Victims of the stampede are mostly women.
Some casualties have reportedly been transferred to the nearby hospitals.
When reached, the Anambra governor’s chief press secretary, Charles Aburime, confirmed the incident.
According to Aburime, the state government is closely monitoring the situation and will issue a statement soon.
The incident comes just a few days after around 35 people, mostly children, were killed in a stampede at a children’s funfair in Ibadan, Oyo state’s capital.
