There were severe gun battle between soldiers of the 14 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Ohafia, Abia State and gunmen at a boarder community between Abia and Imo states.
The gun battle reported at Mbata, Umuchima village in Isiala Ngwa North local, was said to have caused tension in the area as natives reportedly ran into the bush to escape the battle.
Unconfirmed reports had it that over 15 Hillux and Armoured Personnel Vehicles of the Nigerian army were seen around Umuchima village as early as 6am.
The soldiers were said to have stormed the area to attack and dislodge the said unknown gunmen who have reportedly been camping around the riverine village which serves as a boundary between Abia State and Mbaise axis of Imo State.
It was gathered that major roads leading to the village were cordoned off by soldiers.
Reports have it that sounds of gun shots rented the air in the area for several hours.
No official report from the Nigerian army or the state government was issued over the development as at the time of filing the report.
Gov. Otti had at the end of a security meeting with heads of various security agencies promised to rejig the security architecture and deal with criminals in the state.
